The Top 10 Vintage Holiday Gifts

Men’s watches are outrageously expensive at the retail level, especially pocket watches, but they can be had for a song at estate sales.

Every woman needs these. They dress up anything from a T-shirt to a little black dress. Whether in classic white or a beautiful green, pearls are the way to a woman’s heart.

Have you been to the mall lately? There are more accessory stores than clothing stores. Fun little handbags and lovely, colorful silk scarves are everywhere in the secondhand market. They typically go overlooked and under-priced. For a truly original gift, authentic vintage hats and wallets will make any collector smile, but are impossible to find in regular department stores.

Tag sales, garage sales & estate sales frequently offer one-of-a-kind holiday decorations for a fraction of their retail price. Whether you are looking for early 20th century blown glass ornaments, a hand-made Santa doll, bubble Christmas lights, or the perfect star for your tree, you can find it by doing a little treasure hunting this season.

There are so many different kinds toys for sale. Hot Wheels, LEGOs, trains, tin robots and children’s books get kids off their phones and engaging with the physical world. When picking books for nieces & nephews, look for classics with great cover designs. Babar, Pooh or Madeline are all favorites of mine.  When in doubt, every generation loves Nancy Drew.

I don’t know about you, but I would LOVE to have a vintage Beatles poster hanging on my wall! *All You Need Is Love*

Often perceived to be out of fashion, fur coats can be found (especially in the warmer months) for next to nothing. Take them to your tailor, remove the sleeves and you’ve got an awesome vest that fits anyone.  I like the black lamb’s wool because they are less bulky.

Who wouldn’t like a cut glass or silver plated ice bucket to give the holidays an extra sparkle? Don’t forget to add a quality bottle of wine or champagne, or course!

As our population gets older, it becomes important to find gifts for elderly friends & relatives. Replace their $7 plastic cane with a quality, retro one that will add style to their walk. For quirky relatives, there are canes & walking sticks with hidden compartments, knives & even expandable umbrellas!

In our highly technological age, people from every generation are turning the tables with a re-surging passion for records. Find an original record player or record collection at an estate sale to become the best holiday shopper in your family.
