The Sunday Edit: Morris Museum Musings

History of the Idiom “Down the Rabbit Hole.” Source: Medium

Do you ever lose your train of thought, try to trace it, and end up deep in the rabbit hole? This happens to me all the time. In hopes of sharpening my mental acuity, sometimes I must let go of the thought entirely for it to return, often in better form than when it escaped! My point is, connecting the thought dots can be a rewarding exercise.

Here’s an example. Recently, a video of Sisyphus Automata (see above) landed in my inbox from Colossal Daily Dose of Art & Culture. As one who regularly feels like Sisyphus with Venn diagrams that feverishly churn within my head like zillions of gears, my brain threw me a lifeline with the thought of the Morris Museum’s fantastical Guinness Collection: Mechanical Music & Automata.

In this fascinating trove of mechanical musical instruments and automata, art and technology take a waltz together. The automata—dolls and figures that come to life through mechanized movement—make an equally impressive display of art and craftsmanship. More than 150 pieces from this extraordinary collection are displayed in the permanent exhibition Musical Machines & Living Dolls: Mechanical Musical Instruments and Automata from the Murtogh D. Guinness Collection.

Winning!

Now to connect the thought dots.

This Friday, the Morris Museum will host A Night at the Museum, presented by Ms. Morristown. The popular online guide rented out the entire museum “To party like rockstars with an open bar, themed cocktails, food, music by @dj_chelli interactive exhibits, special guest appearance by famed rock photographer @jayblakesberg and so much more.”

And because we are not ones to miss a party, the Magnussons will be there! Look for Lauren, Country Mike and our previous clients and now Magnusson design consultants Michael Perris and Gregory Cole, creators of the pandemic-inspired, genderless fragrance line The Bubble Collection

Lynn and Drew will be sending good juju as they sail away on Jam Cruise with the hope of keeping all the thought dots (and bubbles!) connected.
