The market for collectible and rare coins continues to show its strength in sale after sale as Magnusson Art Group’s Fall Coin Auction reached that vaunted status of “white glove” sale, with all 139 lots offered sold. The sale’s success continues the unmistakable trend for the coin market as eager collectors continue to be very active in adding sought-after pieces to their collections.

The continued momentum of the coin market is bolstered by the participation of collectors from across the country who demonstrate their willingness to bid and buy in online auctions. Consignors considering how to realize maximum returns for the sale of their coins can be assured that the right collectors are being reached through the visibility and ease of online auctions.

September’s Fall Coin Auction highlights included the beautiful 1922-S United States St. Gaudens $20 Gold Coin which sold $2,880, eclipsing its presale estimate and making it the highest price realized among the coins offered. Also among the sale’s top lots was a remarkable 1965 Gautemalan Tecun Uman 4/5ozt Gold Coin which sold for $2,250, also well above its presale high estimate.

Perhaps the most impressive result of the Fall Coin Auction was for a group lot of five 1916 United States Mercury Dimes which shattered presale expectations, achieving $2,070. Indeed bidders and buyers seemed resolved to add the coins they coveted to their collections.

However the sale’s top lot honor went to the lone watch offered the Rolex GMT-Master II Ref. 116710LN Full Set. The watch realized $10,080, demonstrating the desirability of good collectible timepieces.
